This piece is a contemplation of and variation of the historical log cabin quilt block. In the log cabin block, a red square is set in the middle, representing the hearth, placed as a reminder of its value in keeping the home warm. Unlike the log cabin quilt block, this quilt is lacking the center red square, yet it exists in variations throughout the quilt. This represents the fragmentation and disconnection to our natural resources. Without this connection to hearth in the home, we do not have the same dependency, respect and mindfulness of of our natural resources, such as wood.
